LORAINE RODRIGUEZ PAYAN, O.D
Dr. Loraine Rodriguez Payan is a native of Brooklyn, New York. She moved with her family to Houston at the age of 6 years old. Growing up on the southeast side of Houston, Loraine attended Dobie High School where she graduated in 1988 with Honors. She was awarded an academic excellence scholarship to attend the University of Houston where she began to pursue her interests in Biology and Optometry.
She completed her Bachelor of Science in Optometry and continued studies at the University of Houston College of Optometry where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997. During her final year of studies at the College of Optometry Dr. Payan complete externship programs with the US Army at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and Bellaire Contact Lens associates.
Dr. Payan moved to San Antonio soon after graduation and practiced there with Master Eye Associates for about a year. Missing Houston and her family brought her back where she began working with several different optometrists throughout Houston, Katy and Copperfield areas. She also spent about a year working with an ophthalmologist assisting with pre and post operative care of patients with cataracts, laser procedures and diseases of the eyes.
After 7 years of practice in other optometry offices, she opened her own private practice in August 2004.
Dr. Payan believes in taking the time necessary to find out what your personal visual demands are and helping you to find the best way to help you achieve clear, comfortable vision throughout your busy day.
Dr. Payan is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, University of Houston Alumni Organization
Dr. Payan has been married to Dr. Jose A.Payan since 1999 and settled into the Copperfield area to begin raising their two boys Nikolas born in 2000 and Lucas born in 2003. Dr. Jose is a proud veteran of the US Army. He graduated from University of Houston College of Optometry in 2009.
JOSE A. PAYAN, O.D
Dr. Jose Payan is originally from Ventura, California. He lived there until he enlisted into the US Army in 1992. He served in the US Army in Germany and San Antonio.
Dr. Jose has many years of experience in the eyecare field prior to optometry school. Being trained in the U.S. Army at Brooke Army Medical Center as an ophthalmology assistant, he has worked in just about every setting in the eyecare field, from eye surgery to the optical.
In the military he worked at Optometry Clinic and later assisted in the opening of the first military Optometry/Ophthalmology combined clinic at Brooke Army Medical Center. After serving his duty in the military, he joined a well-established practice in San Antonio as a lead surgical assistant to a glaucoma specialist. Once deciding that school was a goal for him to complete, he and Dr. Loraine Payan moved to Houston.
Dr. Jose previously worked at two of the largest ophthalmology practices in Houston, while completing his undergraduate degree in Biology. He later was accepted into the University of Houston College of Optometry. He completed clinical rotations at Dr. Allan Panzer’s clinic in Bellaire, TX, La Nueva Casa de Amigos in Houston, and the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Dr. Jose graduated from the College of Optometry in the Spring of 2009.
He enjoys spending time with his family. He has coached his sons in Cy-Fair Sports Association and Fairfield Sports Association in baseball and basketball. He spends his weekends at baseball tournaments and sporting events. On his free time, he likes to travel and visit new places in Texas.
Dr. Jose is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, National Glaucoma Society, and the IDOC Member Director for the Houston Region.
