Dr. Ali Mostaghimi
Dr. Mostaghimi graduated from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2007, where he received his Doctor of Optometry and Bachelor of Science degrees. He is also an alumnus of The University of Houston where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology, with minor in Psychology in 2003.
Dr. Mostaghimi’s clinical experiences have taken him all over the country. He completed his doctorate degree at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, where he gained tremendous experience in managing patients with glaucoma, those with ocular problems associated with diabetes and hypertension, and low vision patients in the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center.
His studies have also taken him on clinical rotations in La Jolla, California where he gained valuable expertise on Specialty Contacts and Laser Vision Correction; and to Phoenix, Arizona, at The Phoenix Indian Medical Center, where he gained even more experience in managing patients with diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, and other ocular emergencies.
Dr. Mostaghimi is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. He also holds a certification in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease. He is a licensed Therapeutic Optometrist and an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist in Texas.
Dr. Shelby Gross
Dr. Shelby Gross received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at Tulane University, and her Doctor of Optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry, graduating Magna Cum Laude from both institutions. After graduation, she completed a residency at the VA Portland Health Care System in Portland, Oregon, where she specialized in primary eye care, treatment and management of ocular disease, and low vision.
She is a licensed Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist in Texas. Dr. Gross has been taking care of patients with Today’s Vision in Cinco Ranch since early 2017 and specializes in specialty contact lenses such as scleral lenses and lenses for myopia control as well as day to day primary eye care.
Dr. Amelia Holbrook
Dr. Amelia Holbrook founded Memorial Eye Center in 1990 with the mission forming a team of independent doctors and optometric professionals, united in a commitment to provide exceptional eye health exams and customized eyewear solutions. Raised in Killeen, Texas, Dr. Holbrook studied biochemistry and genetics at Texas A&M University prior to earning her doctorate of optometry, magna cum laude, from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Holbrook has extensive experience in virtually all aspects of optometry and is a leader at incorporating new technologies to advance the proficiency of comprehensive eyecare. She has a particular passion for specialty and complicated contact lenses and pediatric visual development.
Dr. Holbrook has held various positions on the board of the Harris County Optometric Society and has provided optometric humanitarian aid in Guatemala. During her spare time, Dr. Holbrook enjoys “clean” nutritional cooking, gardening, photography, country and western dancing, and has a fondness for animals of all shapes and sizes. Dr. Holbrook is available for english and spanish language exams.
Dr. Linda Enciso
A Houston native, Dr. Linda Enciso performed her undergraduate studies at the university of texas at austin, prior to earning her doctorate of optometry, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2006. During the course of her optometric studies, Dr. Enciso completed a clinical rotation at the Veterans’ Administration hospital in Spokane, Washington, were she received supplemental training in the fields of ocular pathology and geriatric eyecare. Dr. Enciso is known for her patient chair-side manner and her tenacious perseverance in developing solutions to complex ocular conditions. Dr. Enciso has been with Memorial Eye Center since 2007.
Among her favorite experiences, Dr. Enciso recounts scuba diving in Cairns, surfing in Hawaii, watching the sun set from the Sydney Opera House and providing optometric humanitarian aid to remote villages in Honduras. She is an avid snowboarder and especially appreciates the slopes on Mount Bachelor in Oregon. Her favorite leisure activities are biking, eating desserts and hanging out with her husband and two dogs, Monty and Hugo.
Dr. Jolynn Hoang
Originally from victoria, Texas, Dr. Jolynn Hoang performed her undergraduate studies while attending the University of Notre Dame at South Bend, where she earned a bachelor of arts in music history, literature, and theory. Following her multifaceted experience with the fighting irish, Dr. Hoang returned to Texas and earned a doctorate of optometry, magna cum laude, from the University of Houston College of Optometry. During the course of her optometric studies, Dr. Hoang completed clinical rotations with both Northeastern State University’s Oklahoma College of Optometry and the Cedar Springs Eye Clinic, where she received specialized training in the management of systemic disease and acute primary eye care. Dr. Hoang, who is known for her warm and friendly chair-side manner and distinct aptitude for the management of ocular diseases, is delighted to be the newest member of Memorial Eye Center’s exceptional team of eye care specialists.
Among her various pastime interests, Dr. Hoang is a skincare and milk tea enthusiast, enjoys hand lettering and baking, and rarely misses an opportunity to indulge in her husband’s culinary abilities. As a proud Notre Dame alumnus, Dr. Hoang is an enthusiastic supporter of the fighting irish football program. Dr. Hoang is available for english and spanish language exams.
Dr. Emily Porier
Dr. Emily Porier spent her early years traveling as an “army brat”, before finally settling down in Killeen, Texas. Following high school in Killeen, Dr. Porier performed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. With a special emphasis in neuro-ophthalmic disorders, Dr. Porier received her doctorate of optometry in 1994, magna cum laude, from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Upon the award of her doctorate, Dr. Porier joined Memorial Eye Center, where she has consistently set the standard in providing comprehensive eyecare for more than 18 years. Dr. porier has a wide range of experience and excels at providing full scope family eyecare, with a special interest in pediatric vision and the unique challenges presented with maintaining healthy eyes in children.
Dr. Porier resides in Katy and is an enthusiastic member of the Katy community. She often volunteers for school vision screenings and band booster functions, and is actively involved in her church. While an avid Texans and Rockets supporter, Dr. Porier’s favorite leisure activity is spending quality time with her husband and two daughters.
Dr. John Tavares
Originally from warren, Michigan, Dr. John Tavares relocated to Houston in 1995. Dr. Tavares began his undergraduate studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, and later at the University of Houston, before going on to earn his doctorate of optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2003. While at the college of optometry, Dr. Tavares received supplemental clinical training in the area of complex medical eye conditions and surgical solutions. Although Dr. Tavares enjoys providing general eye health exams and fitting contact lenses, he has a well-earned reputation for developing exacting solutions to complex eye conditions and has a particular interest in preventive care and ocular health maintenace. Dr. Tavares has been affiliated with Memorial Eye Center since his relocation to houston in 1995.
Dr. Tavares is an ardent sports fan and can often be found in the stands at an Astros, Texans or Aeros game. He passionately follows the Detroit Red Wings and rarely misses an Astros’ spring training in Florida. Dr. Tavares also enjoys participating in fundraisers, especially at Hollibrook Elementary School where his wife is an educator. Dr. Tavares is available for english and spanish language exams.
Dr. Kim To
A life-long houstonian, Dr. Kim to attended the University of Houston for her undergraduate studies, where she received a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, before going on to earn her doctorate of optometry, with honors, from the university of Houston College of Optometry in 2005. During the course of her optometric studies, Dr. To completed clinical rotations at the Veterans’ Administration Hospitals in both Quantico, Virginia and San Antonio, Texas, were she received supplemental training in the diagnosis and treatment of diverse medical conditions of the eye. Dr. to has been with Memorial Eye Center since 2006 and is well known for her thoughtful and compassionate approach to patient care. Dr. to is an aspiring “foodie” who enjoys not only the consumption, but also the study and preparation of a variety of foods. She is an avid traveler, with a particular fondness for Melbourne, Australia, and loves attending festivals with her husband, daughter, son and dog rusty. Dr. to is an enthusiastic advocate for literacy volunteers of america and has spent many years teaching english as a second language. Dr. to is available for english, spanish and vietnamese language exams.
Dr. Kris Patel
Dr. Kris Patel was born and grew up in a small town in East Texas. He is licensed by the Texas Optometry Board to practice as a therapeutic optometrist and an optometric glaucoma specialist. He earned his octorate degree from the University Of Houston College Of Optometry with honors in 2009. Dr. Patel completed an internship at Bridge Builders Eye Clinic in Dallas, Texas, where he was trained on how to diagnose and treat various diseases of the eye. He also completed an internship at Alamo Eye Care in San Antonio, Texas where he received extensive training in fitting of contact lenses and laser vision correction. Dr. Patel has worked with an ophthalmologist in Lubbock, Texas where he furthered his knowledge in pediatrics, eye disease and surgery, laser vision correction, as well as sports vision.
Dr. Patel was a committee member of the Texas Optometric Association, previously president of the Student Texas Optometric Association, and a Gold Key Honors Graduate.
Dr. Patel begins each examination with a thorough assessment of the patients’ needs and concerns. He is able to tailor the eye examination for each patient and provide personalized treatment options, eyewear, and/or contact lenses that will provide the best vision and comfort.
In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys participating and watching football and basketball games, and spending time with his family. He also competes in half marathons yearly in support of various diseases.
Dr. Hiral Mehta
Dr. Hiral Mehta is a therapeutic optometrist and an optometric glaucoma specialist. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Biology and then a doctorate from the University of Houston College of Optometry with training in pediatrics, low vision, primary care and specialty contact lenses.
She completed her optometric training at the Northeastern State University College of Optometry where she received extensive training in diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other anterior and posterior segment diseases. She is also trained on LASIK co-management and cataract pre and post-op care. Dr. Mehta also served an indigent population at La Nueva Casa de Amigos clinic in Houston as part of her optometric training where she learned to speak Spanish and received further training on treatment and management of ocular diseases and contact lenses.
She is very thorough in her examinations and provides proper treatment plans tailored for each individual. Away from the office, Dr.Mehta enjoys spending time with her family (especially with her nieces and nephews!).
Dr. Robert Flanders
Dr. Robert Flanders is originally from the small town of Chautauqua in Western New York State. He moved to Texas in 1975 to pursue a career in environmental science. In 1983, he decided to change careers and was accepted at the University of Houston College of Optometry. After completing optometry school, he began work at a busy ophthalmology practice at St. Joseph Hospital where he assisted in the Early Treatment of Diabetes Study and co-authored an article which appeared in “Texas Optometry” in May 1988.
Dr. Flanders holds membership in the American and Texas Optometric Associations. He served on the Harris County Optometry Society Board from 2001 through 2002. A wide variety of eye care is offered at the Rice Village location, including normal and specialized contact lens fitting, pediatric eye care, and surgical evaluations. Dr. Flanders is credentialed at The Eye Center of Texas. Laser surgery is provided to his patients at this facility for the correction of nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.
Dr. Flanders and his wife Annie have two young boys, Andrew and Matthew. Interests include a variety of sports including tennis, water sports and fishing.
Dr. David Sims
Dr. David Sims is from Tennessee where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biology for the Health Sciences at Maryville College. Following graduation, he worked two years at the Tennessee School for the Deaf as a council or where he became proficient in American Sign Language. Dr. Sims moved to Texas in 1997 to attend the highly-ranked University of Houston College of Optometry.
During his clinical rotation service at the Golden Eye Clinic in East Texas, Dr. Sims received externship training in primary eye care with emphasis on glaucoma, ocular pathology and trauma. Additional externship training was with glaucoma sub-specialists at Houston Eye Associates where further experience was gained in the management of glaucoma and ocular disease. He provided eye care as a Harris County Hospital District Katrina Volunteer and is currently a member of the Texas Optometric Association and Harris County Optometric Society. Primary family eye care is the focus of the practice, but you should know that Dr. Sims is also attentive to all medical conditions that affect your eyes such as diabetes, hypertension, neurological disorders and vascular disease. You will be warmly welcomed by Dr. Sims who takes great care to address concerns during your exam so that you feel satisfied and confident with the high level of thorough care you receive.
Dr. Sims spends spare time enjoying travel, reading, music, art, film, and any other creative diversion he can find.
Dr. Thomas P. Arnold
Dr. Thomas P. Arnold is a 1984 graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry and founded what is now Memorial Eye Center Sugar Land in 1992. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Northern Colorado and finished his pre-medical requirements at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Arnold completed his externship at the Indian Health Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico and was a research associate at The University of Texas Medical School for the Early Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy for the National Eye Institute. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Laser Eye Institute of Houston and adjunct facility at the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Dr. Jocelyn S. Horiszny
Dr. Jocelyn S. Horiszny has been in private practice and an associate of Today’s Vision Sugar Land since 1999. Dr. Horiszny specializes in primary eye care and contact lens fitting. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry and holds a BA in Biology with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. During her training at the University of Houston she presented and co-authored a research publication at the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Horiszny completed an externship at the Hermann Eye Center in Houston where she concentrated on retinal pathology. She also was an extern at Evans Army Community Hospital in Fort Carson, Colorado where she focused on primary eye care.
Dr. Joseph A. Janes
Joseph A. Janes, OD, FAAO, is a therapeutic optometrist specializing in performing comprehensive eye examinations for the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease, including the pre and post-operative care of cataract and refractive surgery patients. Dr. Janes has participated in numerous clinical trials and FDA studies for corneal inlays, and contact lens design and solutions. He has considerable experience treating post-operative complications and prescribing contact lenses to remediate a variety of ocular conditions such as keratoconus and dry eye syndrome. He is also proficient in utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic testing to analyze candidacy for LASIK, cataract surgery, Orthokeratology and for the treatment of glaucoma. His career spans over thirty years of private practice, research, and educating professionals. Dr. Janes finished his seventh consecutive term as President of the Harris County Optometric Society in 2008 and served on the society’s board of directors for twelve years. In a ddition, his diverse experience includes serving in a senior management capacity for a prominent laser vision correction facility and assisting in the design of medical records software programs. He is presently an adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Houston, College of Optometry. His scientific articles and papers have appeared in numerous professional publications.
Dr. Kristyn Reed
Dr. Kristyn Reed grew up in the North Houston/Conroe area and graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Biomedical Science and a minor in business. While at Texas A&M, Dr. Reed worked in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in addition to holding several leadership positions in campus organizations as well as her local sorority chapter.
After a few years working in the eye care field, she went on to receive her Doctorate from the University Of Houston College Of Optometry in 2014. Her awards and honors throughout her educational career have included the Honors Program at A&M, Dean’s List at both A&M and UH, Terry Foundation Scholar, Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, Optometric Student Association Special Recognition, and Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society.
Dr. Reed gained extensive experience diagnosing and treating eye diseases during her externship rotations at The Robert Cizik Eye Clinic, Good Neighbor Clinic, and La Nueva Casa de Amigos Health Center. She has also developed practical skills in fitting complex lenses including contacts for astigmatism, presbyopia, keratoconus, and post-surgical corneas in a large ophthalmology practice over the last three years.
When not working, Dr. Reed enjoys spending time with her friends and family, serving on medical mission trips with Benevolent Missions International, participating in her home church, traveling, relaxing at the beach, and supporting her Aggies at sporting events as part of the 12th Man.
